Symfony Ecosystem vs Laravel Ecosystem

A few days ago I saw someone ask if Sylius was a good eCommerce system to use, which it is. And my first thought to head was "Of course because it's Symfony based." then I wondered what the options and systems built on Laravel and thought it would be interesting to list out were. So here we are. I'll go through the systems I know of for various categories for both Symfony and Laravel.

eCommerce - Symfony

Sylius

The eCommerce system that sparked the idea for this list because I automatically linked it with being built on Symfony components. Sylius to me also links up with being built on Symfony and being developed using BDD practices.

Spryker

While this still relies on some Symfony components, it is much its own beast; however it does follow roughly the same principles of Symfony development. So if you like the Symfony style of development, this is a good choice.

This is also super fast!

Shopware

The German-based eCommerce system that Ben Marks left Magento to join. This is one to follow if you're in the eCommerce space.

eCommerce - Laravel

Bagisto

Honestly, I don't know much about this other than it's Laravel and exists.

Daalder

For me this is mainly known for the amount of Reddit ads they have. I also always think the dollar sign is a S. So I thought the name was Sdaadler.

This is a headless eCommerce system built on Laravel.

CMS - Symfony

Drupal

Drupal decided to move over to building upon Symfony components several years ago. And a large amount of the Symfony conferences include talks from the Drupal community.

Sulu

A CMS built for agencies to deliver sites for enterprise companies.

BoltCMS

A CMS built built Two Kings - web development agency and open source.

CMS - Laravel

October

SaaS Boilerplate . Symfony

Parthenon

That is this site! I think this is the only SaaS Boilerplate built on top of Symfony. It is designed to be flexible and for everything to be replaced. It was never really designed to be just a SaaS boilerplate. That is just the messaging everyone understands. Parthenon was designed to provide the generic functionality that development teams end up spending months solving that aren't part of what makes their product special. It's just really good at helping you build a SaaS quickly because it provides all the generic functionality.
